According to figures recently released by Kickstarter, Tim Schafer's Double Fine Adventure has had a massive impact on the crowd-funding scene.
A Kickstarter blog drew attention to the massive increase in first-time pledgers. According to their stats, 22% of Double Fine's first time backers went on to fund another project.
Before the recent surge in popularity, only one video game had taken over $100,000 from the crowd-funding source. Since Double Fine Adventure hit the site, nine different games have raised at least that figure.
Before Double Fine, the video games category attracted an average of 629 pledgers a week. Since Tim Schafer's call to arms, the weekly average has risen to a staggering 9,755 pledges. To put that in perspective, $1.7 million was raised in the first two years before Double Fine, and $2.8 million has been raised in the six weeks since.
