Nine months ago Moldy Toof Studios revealed The Escapists 2, and they promised to bring the little prison simulation in 2017. After yesterday's announcement we know there's no problem with time management within the studio, because their next instalment will release on August 22.

The Escapists 2 is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, as the first trailer reveals, and Team 17 talked about a Nintendo Switch release too, although not providing specific details at the moment. You can pre-order the game right away for £19.99 if you're really keen though, and by doing so you can get yourself a little incentive called The Glorious Regime, an additional pre-set prison in the jungle.

In terms of new features, The Escapists 2 will have a tutorial for beginners, around ten prisons in certain locations (one is said to be in space!) we need to escape from, and a drop-in, drop-out multiplayer mode for up to four convicts, although that differs from platform to platform with no further details given. As if that wasn't enough, there's a newly reworked fighting system as well, to give those little creeps those tasty slaps, and Mouldy Toof Studios announced new items and gameplay mechanics as well. That's a hell of a sequel, don't you think?

REVIEW. Written by Sam Bishop

"There's something very portable-friendly about The Escapists 2 on Switch, whether it's the cute little characters or the very accessible (but hard-to-master) approach."
