Despite its incredible popularity, the U.S. has always had a problem with TikTok. The app has faced threats of being banned in the nation multiple times, with most of these threats coming from the links between TikTok and China.

Specifically, U.S. Senators and lawmakers believe that the data from TikTok is being harvested by China. In a week's time, the CEO of TikTok will appear in front of Congress, but now the U.S. is threatening to ban the app unless its owners agree to sell their stakes.

TikTok doesn't believe that this forced sale will automatically mean better data protection for U.S. users, and has promised to o spend $1.5 billion on a program to safeguard U.S. user data and content from Chinese government access.

According to the Wall Street Journal's U.S. sources, a resolution to this could be months away, but it seems the U.S. remains hostile to the idea of the app taking data from its citizens and providing it to China.
