Three people are now facing federal charges in the US because of their individual and collective responsibility for the death of 28-year-old Andrew Finch.
Finch was shot outside of his property after a SWAT team was called to his house because of a phone call made by a previously charged 25-year-old individual over a $1.50 bet on a Call of Duty game. This bet had been placed between the now co-accused 18-year-old and 19-year-old.
One of the two recently charged players decided to get back at the aforementioned 19-year old, enlisting the already charged caller to make a call to 911 operators. The 18-year old managed to trick the others by handing out an old address, and unfortunately for Finch that address led police to his mother's house. The caller, claiming to be at the house, said he had shot his father and had his mom and sister at gunpoint.
Finch, a father of two, exited the house unarmed as police had it surrounded, a police officer (not charged over the incident) shot him dead mistakingly thinking he was reaching for a gun.
As it stands they will be tried for their involvement in what is one of the most disturbing incidents involving video games we've come across.
