Ubisoft took "a step back" to make The Settlers

The Settlers is a strategy series that has been around for over two decades, but now a new one is coming our way next year, as announced at Gamescom, and at the Cologne event we got to speak with creative director Volker Wertich about the new instalment and how it came to be.

"What we are doing is we take a step back and look at really what makes Settlers unique, and what makes it different from other games, and we've defined the DNA of The Settlers and we are working in this direction," Wertich explained. "So what we are doing, for example, is what you see is what you get, that's a very important part [...] a lot of the systems that have been in previous Settlers games will be in the new Settlers game again, but we reinvent them."
