Vatican priest sets up a Minecraft server for players to join

Nothing ungodly will be going on here, as it's "about getting people together who can then maybe move those relationships to the real world".

We don't often report about the Vatican here at Gamereactor, but a new video from Rome Reports has given us good reason to (thanks, VG247), as Jesuit priest Robert Ballecer is setting up a Vatican Minecraft server for players to enjoy themselves peacefully.

"It's not about the technology, it's not even really about the gaming," he said. "It's about getting people together who can then maybe move those relationships to the real world."

"At first, there were a lot of people who were very hesitant. Because you see this guy in a collar talking about the latest offerings from Google, or how you run fiber optics across the Atlantic. And they didn't understand, they said, 'Wait a minute, these two things don't go together.' But after a time, they realized, 'Okay, he knows what he's talking about, he just happens to be a priest.' And ultimately, that was the ministry I was trying to do."

This is just in the test stage at the moment, and he actually asked people what game would be best on Twitter, with Minecraft winning the vote understandably, given its appeal to all ages and widespread popularity.

Is this a good idea?

"I would like to compare Minecraft to my favourite TV show of all times - Seinfeld. It's a game about nothing."
