Don't Nod's upcoming action-RPG is avoiding the chaotic end of 2023.
"Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of GRTV News. Today we have a delay announcement for you unfortunately. One of the most anticipated games coming up later this year, something that I've been really excited to play, it's been pushed and it will no longer be coming in 2023 but it will instead be coming in February 2024 with that game being Banishers Ghost of New Eden. So the game has been pushed and as for why, well Dontnod has given us a little statement explaining exactly that. Banishers Ghost of New Eden gets delayed to February. Dontnod finally realise it's not smart to go up against Marvel Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Alan Wake 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario RPG and so forth. Remedy was one of the first studios to outright say they didn't want to go up against other highly anticipated games when they delayed Alan Wake 2. The Finnish studio was quickly followed by the Honest Souls at Pieces Interactive who pushed Alone in the Dark to 2024. Now it's time for a third game to bow out. Dontnod and Focus Entertainment have announced that Banishers Ghost of New Eden has been delayed from the 7th of November 2023 to the 13th of February 2024. They claim the game is basically done but that it wouldn't be able to shine as brightly if it was released around the same time as Marvel Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Alan Wake 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario RPG and everything else coming in late October and early November. An interesting decision when it's barely been two months since we got the original date and most of the dates we've received since then are from Nintendo and Banishers Ghost of New Eden isn't even coming to Switch. Still, most of us don't have unlimited amounts of money so it's a very understandable decision and until you realise that February at the time of writing is set to have Suicide Squad kill the Justice League, Helldivers 2, Persona 3 Reload and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, do you think this delay will help Banishers Ghost of New Eden?
It's an interesting delay in my eyes a bit because where Banishers was currently slotted was kind of in a little bit of a lull in the busyness that is this sort of autumn window."
"You know after Alan Wake on I think October 26th or 27th sorry, there's a bit of a break until the sort of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 comes out as well as Super Mario RPG and all that in sort of around the sort of the 10th, 8th through the 10th of November. And Banishers was slotted in nice in between sort of on November 3rd, I'm sorry 7th of November."
"So it's kind of an interesting one to me. Again, as Eric puts in the news piece, February is going to be a very busy month again. We've seen this in the case of the last couple of years really. A lot of big games tend to come out in early 2020 or early in the year should we say. And this coming February is not going to be any different. Suicide Squad Killed the Justice League will actually hit that February window. It's hard to say, we haven't really heard much about the game since this disastrous sort of PlayStation State of Play earlier in the year. Helldivers 2 has been set for that February release so we expect that to take place. Persona 3 Reload again, seems like it's likely to happen then."
"And then Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it'd be shocking if it got pushed from that window.
No doubt there'll be plenty more announcements and reveals and different games that are set to come out in that time period as well, including various Nintendo games. So, will it help banishes in the end? It's hard to say. This autumn is very busy in terms of games so no doubt getting out of there is probably a good thing for the title. But maybe it would have been beneficial if they just pushed it back a month or so, pushed it to early December or something. But I'm not the one that's marketing the game, I don't have that information as to what the analytics best suggest. But either way, the key thing to take from it is that Banished Ghost of New Eden has been delayed from November to February. So if you've been waiting for that game like I have, you have to wait for it a little bit longer. That's all the time we have on today's episode of GRTV News but we'll be back now tomorrow with the next one. So until then, hope you enjoy the rest of your Wednesday and we'll see you all on the next one. Take care everyone."
