Zombies get real before Halloween - Gamescom Arizona Sunshine Remake Interview
We couldn't tell you until now, but at Gamescom we got to play Arizona Sunshine Remake on the PS VR2 and to talk with both Vertigo Games' game director Peter Deurloo and, ahem, Freddie the zombie, to learn about everything that has been tweaked and added to the new version of the classic.

"All right, we're at Gamescom 2024 at the Vertigo Games booth I'm checking out some VR games and I'm here joined by both Peter and Freddy Who lent me this wired microphone, you know So it gets bloody power to the microphone. Thank you so much for joining us. I just played I just shot this guy I think in the face A couple of times. I've just played Arizona sunshine remake. I played the original for a little while I'm currently playing the second one on the quest 3 and I played this one on the ps5 So first and foremost, I would like to ask you about The differences in the gameplay not not not just in the graphics which are more obvious But what we can do now what we can feel controller in hand So Arizona sunshine remake is build up from the ground again Using the is to tech so when it comes to the gameplay It's very much using all of the the features that is to provide it All of the the nifty upgrades that we made for that. I do have to spoil there's no dog in there Unless the internet explodes good because we didn't and that we might reconsider But for now, we try to care stay as true to the original as possible keeping the story completely intact but just upgrading it with the best newest visuals and and gameplay that That we provide with a sue for those who didn't play the first game What can they do here that they couldn't do before that you guys imported from the second game in terms of actions?
That's a lot Most most importantly, I think melee would be a big thing. So we have melee weapons everywhere anything you can use to bash in their heads Which you had quite some fun doing Then obviously we have Lots of you know, we have physics on the zombies. You can pick them up. You actually managed to throw one into the water You know, there's a lot more interaction Much more world interactions with the original there were a lot of sort of static items in the world We don't do static items anymore for us. That's a big no-no within VR Everything you you basically feels like you can pick it up. You should be able to pick it up That's that's always been our mantra and this is something that you will see in this remake as well We definitely did some updates for some weaker parts of the game that we felt like now that we're here such as I Won't spoil too much in that regard. But there's there you know, there's a couple of updates where we we were made so some creative changes But yeah, most of all You have your mutilation system, which has been Significantly upgraded since the original with a is to and obviously that is important to us And and and that is part of this again right now You mentioned the story before you of course include the fools original story and also DLC all the additional content Included day one with this remake version we do All right, let's talk about graphics and performance To me it makes a difference. It's it's tricky because of course when you play on the meta is different I played the original on the meta quest 2 I'm playing the second one on the meta quest 3 meta quest 3 and then I tried this out on the ps5 as I said How are you guys dealing with the different versions How can I I expect it to look on the quest 3 coming from the psvr 2 which also looks closer to the PC VR Well, we've always been a cross-platform developer You know all of our VR games always are always available on each on each device And to us it's always been important to make sure that they stay as close to each other as possible I always say and I mean there's like sometimes when I'm reviewing a Quest bill that I sort of one like is this actually quest or is it actually a higher end?
It's sometimes it becomes hard to see if you you know You know when if you take a closer look and obviously there is differences to the psvr 2 and the PC version We have you know, some some some great graphical Updates for that one but overall we try to keep the quality of the quest 3 as high as we can and We feel we've always managed to be able to do that. And once again for Arizona Central remake This will not be a difference. When are you guys releasing? I Believe I'm still not allowed to say this but it we should this is September. We are in September right now This is case games come back. We we are we jumped into the future. So Still no, I'm gonna for now. I'm just gonna Reach out to perhaps we can ask Freddy about that.
