What can you expect from a galaxy far, far away this calendar year? For the first half of 2025, there's a few promising projects, but generally speaking we're waiting for Disney and Lucasfilm to share their full docket of plans.
"Now that we're into 2025 and the final episode of Skeleton Crew is almost over, you might be wondering what else Disney and Lucasfilm has in store for Star Wars fans around the world this year. Simply put, as it stands, not a whole lot, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few Star Wars goodies to look ahead toward, with most likely all appearing before the spring runs its course. Strangely enough, we're starting things off by looking at Star Wars Celebration, an event that will take place in Japan in April 2025. While the exact schedule for this convention hasn't yet been revealed, we do know that this is the first show in two years, meaning it will no doubt be chock full of exciting reveals and announcements relating to all things Star Wars. We wouldn't expect any major movie announcements yet, as Disney and Lucasfilm still haven't seemingly cracked this case just yet, but an update on The Mandalorian and Grogu, Ahsoka Season 2, perhaps some new animated goodies and maybe even news relating to Star Wars Outlaws and Andor definitely doesn't seem unlikely."
"To many, Andor remains the best Star Wars project we've seen in years, but that belief will be thrown into question in April when the anticipated and high-pressure second season begins its run on Disney+. Revolving again around Diego Luna's Cassian Andor, the second season will look to explore the years between the first season and Rogue One A Star Wars Story, with a 12-episode season planned that will look to delve into a year's worth of events every three episodes. Needless to say, a lot is riding on this project."
"May the 4th be with you. While Disney never usually lays out plans for Star Wars Day, we can pretty much always expect the annual celebration to include a new premiere of some kind on Disney+, with our money being on Star Wars Visions' third season, and a few other surprising reveals too. This may include new Lego sets, fresh merchandise, upcoming summer projects or entirely new other things. Either way, this day never tends to let us down."
"The second of two currently announced expansions for Massive Entertainment's Star Wars action-adventure game, starring Kay Vess as the protagonist alongside the adorable Nyx. Following up to Wild Card, A Pirate's Fortune will see the Trailblazers gang looking to steal a massive treasure hoard while evading deadly space pirates. As of the moment, no date has been announced for this Star Wars Outlaws expansion, other than it will debut sometime in the spring. A more concrete update in the coming months or during Star Wars Celebration or Star Wars Day seems almost certain."
"Lastly, out of the confirmed plans for 2025 so far, we have Star Wars Visions' third season. We don't yet have a date on when this will drop on Disney+, but the second season did debut on Star Wars Day in 2023, which is what makes us think that a similar plan for 2025 seems all too likely. Confirmation of that will no doubt arrive in the weeks and months leading up to the annual celebration, so for the time being we'll have to lean on information we do have, which includes that it will see nine shorts from nine animation studios with an anime theme. As for what those studios are, they are the following. Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus Company, Production IG, Trigger, Anima, David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q and Wit Studio."
"No doubt there will be more Star Wars coming in the second half of 2025, but for now, zero official information is present that relates to that. What we do know is that the Mandalorian and Grogu film is slated for 2026 and Ahsoka Season 2 has yet to begin filming, meaning neither will likely arrive before the year's end. With that in mind, what do you expect to see from Star Wars in 2025? Let us know in the comments."
