Music transcending Final Fantasy and generations - Nobuo Uematsu & Rie Tozuka San Diego Comic-Con Málaga Interview

In this very exclusive opportunity at the SDCCM we had the chance to sit down with the legendary composer behind Final Fantasy or Lost Odyssey and with con TIKI band's voice actress and singer to talk about style, influence, favorite works, or stance on remakes.

"Hello Gamereactor friends, this is day 3 of the San Diego Comic-Con Málaga and this interview has to be in Spanish because we are going to have the magnificent Nobuo Uematsu with us.
and we are going to have the interpretation in Spanish because we are in Malaga."

"Uematsu-san, thank you so much for joining us. Yesterday we saw you with an incredible energy on stage.
My first question would be, what features turn a piece of music into a Final Fantasy track?
I think it's a very eclectic mix of the various genres of music that I have in me.
What is your opinion about Final Fantasy remakes and remasters?
Do you think they can take away the essence of the original piece or can they be the best possible interpretation?
Well, most remakes are based on the music I did previously, so I think it's fine and it doesn't lose the essence."

"I already did it once, so I have no interest in repeating or rebuilding it.
I am very happy that my juniors, the new generations, work so hard to rewrite a song that I once did.
I know you have been asked this question many times."

"What is your favorite Final Fantasy installment musically?
IX? VI? Which one would you say?
I couldn't say on a musical level because I think they're all memorable, but I think Final Fantasy IX is interesting because it has a surprisingly good balance between different genres of music."

"Now that you mention IX, fans are looking forward to a remake of FFIX.
Would you like to see a remake of IX, and do you think it's possible?
You'll have to ask Square Enix about it! I had never thought about whether I wanted the remake or if they would ask me about it, so if Square Enix wants to do it, so be it."

"I do want, I do want a remake of IX.
Have you ever, when playing a section of a finished game, have you ever thought that the music should be changed, that it didn't work as good when playing the game?
Indeed, it happens to me every time I play."

"I always think, this could be a little better.
Is One Winged Angel influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Carmina Burana?
Yes, it's more like Carmina Burana or Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
I was wondering what would happen if Jimi Hendrix wrote a piece for orchestra."

"And a question for Tozuka-san, we love your voice.
You collaborate with Uematsu-san in his band, yesterday you were on stage.
What do you think your voice brings to his work and how did you enjoy being on stage with Uematsu-san yesterday?
What do you bring to Uematsu-san's composition and how do you enjoy on stage."

"And how do you enjoy working with the band "con TIKI"?
Uematsu-san and I are doing a reading on top of his music.
I'm a voice actress and now I'm recording the voiceover for a project called Akari Gatari.
What she does is reading and I think the human voice is a better musical instrument than others."

"because it's more persuasive, it's like singing a song.
