Warner Bros. has commented on the anticipated sequel.
"Hello everyone and welcome back to another GRTV News. Today we're going to be talking a little bit about Hogwarts Legacy and well actually the franchise I suppose you could say or the series of Hogwarts Legacy because we've known for a while that Warner Brothers following the immense success of Hogwarts Legacy 1 is one of the best-selling games of all time. Following that meant success. They have been quite quickly fast-tracking work on a sequel or a follow-up. Maybe it's not like a direct sequel. It's hard to tell. They haven't really shared that much information. But we haven't heard anything in a while and Hogwarts Legacy launched in 2023 and it has had, you know, a few things added here and there, but nothing major."
"It's kind of a one and done game. So you have to look at it and you say, well, we're most of the way through 2026 at this point. So should it be time to start hearing about Hogwarts Legacy 2? And it looks like Warner Brothers is getting ready to start sharing more and more significant information about the game. So anyway, let's dive on in. So yeah, Warner Brothers say they are working on the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy. This is mentioned in a letter to the shareholders and is about a not-too-distant future. Following the hugely successful Hogwarts Legacy, which surpassed 40 million copies sold as recently as late last year, it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced. Warner Brothers has previously stated that this is a high priority, and now they've officially announced that development is in full swing. In an open letter from management to the company's shareholders, we can read, We expect games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy. Since I'm mentioning it now, we have the new TV series coming later this year. One might suspect that the game isn't actually too far off. It's been three and a half years since the first game launched and the groundwork already exists with additional resources. It shouldn't be impossible for Hogwarts Legacy to be released in 2027 or 2028."
"Now I would say that the lack of anything official about the game as of yet would probably, in my eyes anyway, I think it would push it out of the 2027 window.
Especially considering we have a very, very, very busy start of 2027 lined up in regards to the game's calendar. A lot of things that abdicated 2026 to avoid GTA are coming out in early 2027. The only thing that would change that is if we have, you know, we have an event coming up later this month with Gamescom or maybe, you know, another event that's usually always stay to plays or something in early September or in September. If Hogwarts Legacy 2 was to get a formal announcement, any of them, I think there's more of an opportunity for it to launch in the latter half of 2027. But if we don't get that and the game isn't announced formally until, let's say, at the latest, the Game Awards, I do think a 2027 launch would be a bit early for the game. But 2028, I do really think that the game is probably internally timelined for 2028, because it makes sense. Again, by the time that we get to February 2028, it would have been a five-year wait. and you know Hogwarts Legacy isn't a small game and you'd have to say that it wouldn't have had the pre-production schedule that a lot of games have where if they know they're going to be committed to a future of the or they know that they're going to be working on another game they probably would have started pre-production as they were finishing post-production of the original game. I don't think they got that with Hogwarts Legacy, I don't think Avalanche had that I don't want to say foresight, more confidence from the publisher, I guess, because obviously you just don't know. When a game costs as much as it does to make, like Hogwarts Legacy, you don't really get a green light until the publishers know that it's been a success. So the point is that I don't think you're necessarily seeing a game here that's been in development for five years. It's probably been in pre-production for a couple of years. Now it's in development because, you know, it takes time to get these things going. So, you know, either way, as Jonas says, foundation is there. Hogwarts Legacy was a pretty good looking game and I think they got a lot of it right and games cost so much money to make and take so much time to make that they will reuse a lot of it and it makes sense to as well. So I don't think 2028 is unreasonable out of any sense at all. but I do think 2027 is perhaps a little bit too early for it. But still, it's a good sign, you know, it's coming and we're starting to hear more and more about Hogwarts Legacy's follow-up. They wouldn't share information about it and say that, you know, they have an interest in Pipeline and then specifically name-drop the sequel or the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy. They wouldn't specifically say that if they didn't have something they were confident in in regards to launching in the not-too-distant future. So stay tuned, I would say.
