The Virtua Fighter series is one of the oldest out there, and it has plenty of die-hard fans. However, the last Virtua Fighter to be released on console was Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown back in 2012.

Sega has recently renewed the trademark for Virtua Fighter, which has sparked speculation that another entry into the beloved fighting franchise is happening.

We'd say don't get your hopes up, though, because while another Virtua Fighter could certainlty happen, renewing trademarks is commonplace as it protects a company's intellectual property.

Gamescom is happening this week and Tokyo Game Show is in September, so there are two events where the game could possibly be announced if it is in development.
