Surely Wii games on Switch can't be far behind?

In a move that may sound surprising to Western Nintendo fans it has been announced in China that Wii titles will be available on Nvidia Shield. Resetera user ZhugeEX (industry insider Daniel Ahmad) was first to report (in English anyway) about the deal that will see Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and Punch-Out! appear on Nvidia's 4K game device as it launches in China. The partnership between Nintendo, iQiyi (a video service with over 500 million (!) monthly users), and Nvidia may look a bit odd to someone not familiar with the Chinese market, but it is very different and hard to crack for foreign companies and they need to partner up with Chinese companies to make it happen.

Now, it is highly unlikely that this deal to bring Wii titles in HD to Nvidia Shield will extend outside of China, but some are suggesting it's a sign that Nintendo may be close to bringing Wii titles and Virtual Console to Switch at long last (Switch features much of the same innards as Shield afterall). Then again Nintendo does have a tendency to do the unexpected, so who knows?
