Blizzard's shot at transforming World of Warcraft Classic into an esport doesn't appear to have been a big hit if the viewing figures are anything to go by. The Summer Bowl, which concluded over the weekend, only managed to draw a measly 4,896 viewers on Twitch for the European finals and a slightly more sizable 5,761 for the North American finals.
It looks like it's back to the drawing board then for Blizzard to ponder how it can generate a surge in interest for competitive WoW Classic. It's unclear whether the small prize pool of $4,000 or a lack of a strong promotional push had much to do with it, but it's clear that something didn't click. Let's hope that this can be used as a learning experience for future WoW Classic competitions.
Thanks, Dot Esports.
